Switch Energy Alliance (SEA) is an organization dedicated to providing objective, non-partisan, and sensible energy education through its global education program. Founded by renowned scientist Dr. Scott Tinker, SEA aims to bridge the knowledge gap by developing film and web-based energy education programs that offer unbiased information. The organization operates as a 501(c)(3) non-profit and receives funding from foundations, institutions, individuals, and corporations that share the same commitment to energy education.
Dr. Tinker's collaboration with film director Harry Lynch resulted in their first feature documentary, Switch, released in 2012. This critically acclaimed film explores the global energy mix and has received multiple awards. It has been viewed by millions worldwide and is widely used in classrooms to educate students about energy. The overwhelmingly positive feedback and demand for energy education prompted Dr. Tinker to establish Switch Energy Alliance.
SEA reaches millions of people each year through its diverse range of films, television series, and energy education initiatives. The organization released a sequel to its first documentary, titled Switch On, which focuses on energy access in the developing world. Additionally, SEA produces a television series called Energy Switch, aired on PBS, that facilitates civil dialogue with experts on energy and climate issues.
In line with their commitment to education, SEA offers various initiatives to promote energy literacy. These include the Switch International Energy Case Competition that challenges university students to devise solutions to address energy poverty. Furthermore, Switch Classroom provides an online platform for teachers, enabling them to incorporate energy-related topics into their 5th-12th grade classrooms, thereby empowering students to enhance their energy literacy.
